Political Party Responses to Step it Up! |
In the 2007 provincial election campaign, the Step it Up! Campaign met with representatives of four Parties. Both the Liberal Party and the New Democratic Party provided requested written responses to our 'platform' and agreed to meet after the election to work on the measures they supported in their responses. Liberal Party representatives met with us twice on their response, in addition to consulting with us by phone. They also added some important initiatives to the party platform on funding for frontline women's services and the creation of a sexual violence Action Plan for Ontario, and they acknowledged that there was more to do. The NDP has provided the most overall supportive and comprehensive response to the Step it Up 'platform' list in its written response and fiscal plan outlining the dollars it promises to spend. The Progressive Conservative Party indicated that it would not alter its platform, which currently does not address violence against women, but agreed to meet after the election. The Green Party has not sent a written response, although the Party platform does contain measures that support some of the Step it Up Platform for Parties (see below for our 'platform'). Here are the written responses from the Liberal Party and the NDP: Liberal Party Response to Step it Up Liberal Party Platform for women For more information, visit the Liberal Party election campaign site at http://www.ontarioliberal.ca/en/default.aspx New Democratic Party (NDP) response to Step it Up NDP Fiscal Plan For more information, visit the NDP election campaign site at http://ontariondp.com/ We want to thank all of the Party representatives that met with us.
